Greetings from New York City

Hi all,

This is the first of what will hopefully be a reasonably regular update of our mega 6 month holiday around the world, so if you want to keep track of where we are and what we are doing/seeing then its easiest to subscribe using your email.

We have spent the first 2 of our 7 days in NYC trying to stay warm in freezing temps and wandering some pretty amazing shops and streets of the city. Were going to go to the top of the Empire State Building today but considering we couldn't see the top half of it through the fog we'll give that one a rain check. We have already eaten some authentic American-Italian and at a Southern Texan BBQ restaurant with meat bought by pound-weight! Went to the Brooklyn Flea Market which in winter is set in an old bank building with a vault complete with steel doors about two feet thick, but no fleas for sale disappointingly. The supermarkets in the US are quite simply breathtaking, never did I realise there were that many flavours of chips or soft drink, or that it seems like peanut butter must be added to everything by law.

Will keep everyone updated again soon.

L + D
